The Process of Updating Our Constitution
The process of updating our constitution began in April, 2025 with the approval by the Church Council to form a Constitution and Bylaws Working Group. The Working Group was comprised of most members of the Church Council as well as several other Ministry Leaders. The Working Group met biweekly between August and December 2026. The biweekly meetings were punctuated by two half-day retreats, in October and December 2025. In addition to changes made to conform to the new Model Constitution that had been released by the Chicago Metropolitan Synod in August 2025, the Working Group also drafted bylaws for the church, which had not been part of previous constitutions. The final draft of the constitution and bylaws as distributed to the congregation for review in January 2026, and sent to the Metropolitan Chicago Synod the same month. The updated constitution and bylaws were voted on and approved by the congregation at the Annual Voters’ Meeting on March 1, 2026. A link to the document appears below.
